Hosting review
Hostinger review
Trustpilot · 72,700 reviews · as of 2026-10-01
Verdict: The budget-friendly beginner favorite — strong value if you prepay long and accept the renewal bump.
From: $1.99/mo (intro, long multi-year term — promotional, verify at checkout)
This review weighs Hostinger's headline appeal — a cheap, approachable start for a first website — against what you actually pay over the length of the plan. We lean on its verified 4.7/5 Trustpilot standing and its published tiers to separate the genuine first-term value from the renewal fine print.

Verdict at a glance
Hostinger has built its reputation on one clear promise: credible hosting at one of the lowest entry prices on the market. Customers largely agree it delivers. On Trustpilot, Hostinger scores 4.6/5 from roughly 72,700 reviews (as of October 2026, up from the 4.7/5 from about 71,400 reviews we recorded in August). That is the largest review base of any host in our twenty-provider comparison, and holding a score that high at that scale is a meaningful signal.
The trade-offs are the familiar ones for budget hosting. The cheapest rates require a long prepayment (the headline prices below are for 48 months), renewal prices are several times higher than the intro price, shared plans back up weekly rather than daily at the low end, and there is no phone support. For beginners, personal sites and small business sites that can live with those terms, Hostinger is very hard to beat on first-term value.
One honest note before we go further: we did not run our own speed or uptime tests for this review. Everything about performance below comes from Hostinger's own materials and from reputable third-party reporting, and we say so each time.
Who it's for
Hostinger is aimed squarely at cost-sensitive, less technical users:
- First-time website owners who want a guided setup, a simple dashboard and one-click WordPress.
- Bloggers, hobbyists and portfolio builders who want the lowest credible monthly cost.
- Small businesses and freelancers who are happy to prepay for a long term to lock in a low rate.
- Developers who want cheap VPS capacity. The KVM VPS range is competitively priced for the specs on offer.
You should probably look elsewhere if:
- You want phone support. Help is via live chat and email/ticket only.
- You expect daily backups on the entry shared plan. They are weekly there (see Security).
- You run a high-traffic store or an enterprise application where you would rather pay for a managed, premium-support environment.
- You dislike long commitments. The best prices need 24 to 48 months up front, and the renewal is the durable price.
- You need a traditional bare-metal dedicated server. Hostinger does not focus on that product.
Pricing and plans
Hostinger's pricing is the main reason people look at it, and also the main thing you have to read carefully. All figures below were read from Hostinger's own pricing pages on 1 October 2026. They are promotional, they change often, and they usually assume a long prepaid term. The renewal price is the durable figure. Verify everything at checkout.
Shared web hosting
- Premium: intro $2.99/mo on a 48-month term (about $143.52 up front), renewing at $10.99/mo. Up to 3 websites, 20 GB SSD storage, unmetered bandwidth, free domain for the first year, free SSL, two mailboxes per website free for the first year, weekly backups.
- Unlimited: intro $3.99/mo on a 48-month term (about $191.52 up front), renewing at $16.99/mo. Unlimited websites, 50 GB NVMe storage, unmetered bandwidth, free domain for the first year, free SSL, unlimited mailboxes free for the first year, daily backups with easy restore.
- Cloud Startup (listed on the same shared page): intro $7.99/mo on 48 months, renewing at $25.99/mo. Detailed below.
Other sources and earlier snapshots show different tier names and numbers (for instance, an entry "Single" plan limited to one site, and renewal figures in the $5.99 to $8.99 range on older price lists). That is a good illustration of how fluid Hostinger's pricing is. Treat any number you see, including ours, as a snapshot.
KVM VPS
All VPS plans list a 2-year intro term, AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, 1 Gbps networking, root access, a public API and weekly backups plus manual snapshots:
- KVM 1: 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 4 TB bandwidth. $6.49/mo intro, renewing at $11.99/mo.
- KVM 2: 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, 8 TB bandwidth. $8.99/mo intro, renewing at $14.99/mo.
- KVM 4: 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 16 TB bandwidth. $12.99/mo intro, renewing at $28.99/mo.
- KVM 8: 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 400 GB NVMe, 32 TB bandwidth. $25.99/mo intro, renewing at $49.99/mo.
Cloud hosting
- Cloud Startup: $7.99/mo intro (48 months), renewing at $25.99/mo. 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, 2,000,000 inodes, unlimited websites, 100 PHP workers, CDN included, dedicated IP, priority 24/7 support.
- Cloud Professional: $15.99/mo intro (48 months). We could not confirm the renewal price or full spec on the page we read.
- Cloud Enterprise: $29.99/mo intro (48 months). Same caveat on renewal and spec.
Money-back guarantee and refund terms
Hostinger offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on hosting plans. The fine print matters:
- VPS refunds require cancelling within 30 days and having more than 180 days since your last VPS refund.
- Domain registrations are only refundable within 96 hours, and domain renewals, transfers and privacy protection are not refundable.
- Not refundable: things like SEO tools, Google Workspace, GPU hosting and AI Builder credits.
- Crypto payments are not refunded.
Free extras, add-ons and billing gotchas
- Free for the first year: a domain on the qualifying shared and cloud plans, plus the bundled mailboxes. After year one, expect to pay normal domain renewal rates and for email.
- Free SSL on all plans, and migration assistance is offered (see Ease of use).
- Checkout upsells. Expect offers for extras such as backups, priority support and other add-ons. Read the basket before paying.
- The renewal jump. On shared plans the renewal price is roughly three to five times the intro price depending on the tier. A 48-month term delays that jump but does not avoid it. If you want to stay cheap long term, put a reminder in your calendar well before renewal and compare alternatives.
- Term length. The advertised price is per month, but you are paying for 24 to 48 months at once.
Key features
- hPanel, Hostinger's own control panel, built to be simpler than cPanel.
- LiteSpeed web server with built-in caching on shared plans (per Hostinger and reviewers).
- NVMe storage on the higher shared tiers, cloud and VPS plans. The entry shared plan uses SSD.
- Free SSL and free domain for the first year on qualifying plans.
- One-click WordPress and AI-assisted website and content tools.
- Hosting ladder from shared through managed WordPress, cloud and KVM VPS.
- Data-centre choice across several continents, with 100% renewable electricity matching claimed by Hostinger.
- Support 24/7 via chat and email, with no phone line.
- 30-day money-back guarantee on hosting plans.
Performance and infrastructure
Data centres. According to Hostinger's own support documentation, web and cloud hosting is offered in:
- Europe: France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
- Asia: India, Indonesia and Malaysia (Singapore is also mentioned by some third-party lists).
- North America: Phoenix, Boston and Asheville in the United States.
- South America: Brazil.
VPS availability is slightly narrower; the Netherlands and Asheville are not offered for VPS. Hostinger says you can change location after setup on web and cloud plans, but a VPS location is fixed once set up. Availability changes without notice, and the list shown in hPanel at setup is the final word. Choosing a location near your visitors is the single easiest performance decision you can make.
Web server and caching. Hostinger's shared plans run on LiteSpeed with built-in caching, which is generally regarded as faster than a basic Apache stack. The cloud plans list 100 PHP workers and a CDN.
Storage. NVMe on the upper shared tiers, cloud and VPS; SSD on the entry Premium plan.
Uptime. Hostinger advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Tooltester noted that the guarantee is modest and that remedies are limited (a small credit if breached). Third-party testers in 2026 reported measured uptime of roughly 99.95% to 99.99% on shared plans, with fast time-to-first-byte figures, though these are individual test periods and not guarantees. Tooltester's own historical series showed uptime improving over several years, from 99.48% in 2020 to 99.95% in 2022.
Our position. We did not run independent benchmarks. Treat the speed claims as consistent with Hostinger's positioning and with outside reviewers' reports, not as figures we measured. Your own results will depend on your site, your plugins, your chosen data centre and the plan you buy.
Support
Support is available 24/7 through live chat and email. There is no phone line. Third-party testers generally report quick chat pickup (examples range from a few minutes to under ten), and Trustpilot reviewers frequently praise the support team and the AI-assisted tools. Hostinger also replies to the vast majority of negative Trustpilot reviews, which suggests an actively managed reputation.
The criticisms are worth knowing. A minority of reviewers say it is hard to reach a human agent, report unexpected service interruptions, or struggle with domain management and account verification. Some of the harshest comments on Trustpilot are about renewal pricing. Some plans include "priority" support, and paid priority support is also sold as an add-on, so check what your plan includes. There is also a searchable knowledge base and tutorial library, which is where most beginners will start.
As always, an aggregate score does not guarantee any one support interaction.
Security
- SSL: free on every plan.
- Backups: weekly on the entry Premium shared plan, daily on Unlimited and above (as listed on Hostinger's page), plus manual snapshots on VPS. If daily backups matter to you, check the exact plan before buying; a reviewer at Tooltester called out weekly-only backups on lower tiers as a weakness.
- Malware and firewall: Hostinger advertises malware scanning and a web application firewall on its hosting plans. We did not confirm the exact tooling per plan, so check the plan page for what is included. Imunify360 is a common tool in this space, but we did not verify that Hostinger uses it on each tier.
- VPS: firewall management and full root access, which means server hardening is largely your responsibility.
- Account protection: two-factor authentication is available in hPanel (verify in your account settings).
- DDoS: protection is described in Hostinger's materials; we could not verify specifics for each plan.
Bottom line: the basics are covered, but if you run something sensitive, add your own off-site backups and keep your CMS and plugins updated.
Ease of use and migration
This is where Hostinger shines for beginners. hPanel is a clean, custom dashboard that reviewers (Tooltester among them) describe as intuitive and responsive. One-click WordPress installation, staging on higher tiers, Git integration and an AI website builder reduce the amount you need to know. Setup is guided, and you can pick your data centre during onboarding.
For moving an existing site, Hostinger offers migration tools and assistance, and a website-migration helper inside hPanel. Details and limits vary by plan, so confirm what is free before you commit, particularly for non-WordPress sites or large databases. Note the lack of cPanel on the main plans: if you or your agency are cPanel-dependent, the learning curve is real, though Hostinger notes a legacy cPanel hosting product exists in a few regions.
One caution: reports exist of AI Builder credits and extras becoming a source of extra spend and frustration for some users. Keep an eye on what is included and what is billed separately.
Hosting types offered
- Shared web hosting (Premium and Unlimited tiers)
- Managed WordPress hosting
- Cloud hosting (Startup, Professional, Enterprise)
- KVM VPS (KVM 1 through KVM 8)
- Agency hosting (for agencies managing client sites)
- Email hosting
- Website builder with AI assistance
- Game server hosting (Minecraft and other game panels)
There is no emphasis on a classic bare-metal dedicated server line. Hostinger's ladder runs from shared up through VPS and cloud.
Who owns Hostinger
Hostinger is an independent, privately held company. It was founded in 2004 in Kaunas, Lithuania, originally as Hosting Media, and rebranded as Hostinger in 2011. Its headquarters are in Vilnius, Lithuania. The CEO is Giedrius Zakaitis. According to Wikipedia, it serves customers in more than 150 countries, has over 1,000 employees and reported roughly 275 million euros of revenue for 2025, though we have not verified those figures independently.
Unlike many big names in budget hosting, Hostinger is not part of Newfold Digital (the former EIG). That matters for buyers who have been burned by large-conglomerate consolidation elsewhere. Hostinger's history includes acquiring or building several brands, including 000webhost, Hosting24 and Niagahoster. The free host 000webhost was shut down in 2024.
Pros
- Among the lowest entry prices from a credible, large provider.
- Beginner-friendly hPanel, guided onboarding and one-click WordPress.
- Strong first-term value: LiteSpeed caching and NVMe storage on many plans.
- Wide choice of data centres on four continents.
- Very large review base with a high score: 4.6/5 from about 72,700 Trustpilot reviews as of October 2026.
- Competitive VPS pricing for the specs offered, with root access and an API.
- 30-day money-back guarantee on hosting plans.
- Free domain and SSL in year one on qualifying plans.
- 24/7 chat support that reviewers frequently describe as quick.
Cons
- Big renewal jump. Premium goes from $2.99 to $10.99/mo, and Unlimited from $3.99 to $16.99/mo on the pages we read.
- Long prepay. The headline price needs a 24 to 48 month term up front.
- Weekly backups on the entry shared plan.
- No phone support.
- Checkout upsells and extras that can inflate the bill.
- Strict refund exclusions, especially for domains, VPS repeat refunds and AI credits.
- Modest uptime guarantee (99.9%) with limited remedies.
- Not built for enterprise or high-end workloads.
- No cPanel on mainstream plans, which can annoy agencies and long-time users.
- Mixed experiences at the edges: some Trustpilot reviewers report difficulty reaching humans, verification hassles and surprise outages.
How Hostinger compares
Among our twenty hosts, Hostinger's standout feature is the combination of low price and a very large positive review base. Its 4.6/5 comes from roughly 72,700 Trustpilot reviews, far more than boutique hosts like Kinsta (4.7/5 from about 1,100 reviews as we last recorded). A high score is easier to hold on a small base, so the same number across 70,000-plus reviews is the more robust signal.
Versus SiteGround (4.9/5 on Trustpilot in our set). SiteGround is the premium-support-and-performance pick and costs noticeably more, especially at renewal. Hostinger asks you to prepay for a long term in exchange for a much lower sticker price. If the cheapest credible start is your goal, choose Hostinger. If you want the strongest reputation regardless of price, SiteGround is the comparison to make.
Versus Namecheap and FastComet. All three compete at the bottom of the market, with Namecheap and FastComet advertising intro prices in the $1.79 to $1.98 range in our data. Hostinger competes on bundled extras, hPanel and NVMe, and on its larger review base.
Versus Hostwinds. Hostwinds, another host in our set, scores 2.2/5 on Trustpilot and is aimed more at self-managing developers. Hostinger is the gentler, more beginner-oriented pick, while Hostwinds offers hourly-billed cloud servers, Windows VPS and phone support, but with a far weaker public review record.
What real users say
We looked for real customer discussion to balance the marketing. What follows is grounded in Hostinger's public Trustpilot page, which we read on 1 October 2026, a small set of Reddit threads found via search on the same date, and the third-party reviews listed in Sources. Sentiment is overwhelmingly positive by volume (about 87% of Trustpilot ratings are 5-star, per the page summary), but the complaints are consistent enough to take seriously.
Recurring praise
- Helpful, quick support, increasingly AI-assisted. Recent five-star Trustpilot reviewers talk about fast agents and patient troubleshooting. One reviewer wrote:
"Quick response from the agent. Able to fix all my configuration problems. Excellent service!" (a Trustpilot reviewer, 29 September 2026)
- Easy for non-experts. Reviewers on Trustpilot and testers at Tooltester repeatedly call the dashboard and website tools intuitive.
- AI guidance that works for some.
"I am amazed at the support I am receiving from Hostinger's AI agent. It has been guiding me through a complex procedure." (a Trustpilot reviewer, 29 September 2026)
Recurring complaints
- Renewal pricing. The most common theme in negative feedback, summarised on the Trustpilot page as renewals being "extremely high".
- Difficulty reaching a human, and AI-only responses.
"There is no human customer support! Just endless AI emails repeating the same information." (a one-star Trustpilot reviewer)
- AI Builder costs. One one-star reviewer reported spending heavily on tokens to fix problems they attributed to the builder itself. This is one customer's account, but it echoes why we flag AI credits as non-refundable.
- Downtime. A one-star reviewer described a server going offline repeatedly and disrupting their business. Third-party uptime tests are far better than this, so treat it as a minority experience rather than the norm.
What Reddit says
Reddit threads about Hostinger (r/Hostinger and r/HostingHostel) are broadly positive on value and technical performance for small sites, with the praise usually conditional on the user knowing what they are doing. The caveats that recur are email and domains: one reviewer calls the email side weak for business use, and another recommends not buying your domain through Hostinger even while rating the host positively overall.
"Not an inferior host... in terms of the technical aspects." (a user in r/Hostinger)
"A 3/5 rating at best. Basically a discount toy email provider with none of the business class services." (a user in r/Hostinger)
Net read: mostly happy customers, with the unhappy ones clustering around renewal price, AI-driven support and add-on credits. That matches the structural trade-offs described above.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hostinger good for beginners?
Yes. The hPanel dashboard, one-click WordPress and AI tools are built for people new to hosting, and chat support is available 24/7. The caveat is that you need to understand the renewal price before you buy.
Why is Hostinger so cheap, and what is the catch?
The advertised prices are promotional and assume a 24 to 48 month prepayment. When the term ends, shared hosting renews at a much higher rate (for example $10.99/mo on Premium and $16.99/mo on Unlimited on the pages we read). Plan for the renewal, not just the intro price.
Does Hostinger offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes: 30 days on hosting plans. Domains are only refundable within 96 hours, domain renewals and transfers are not refundable, VPS refunds have an extra 180-day condition, and payments made in crypto are not refunded.
Does Hostinger have phone support?
No. Support is via live chat and email, available 24/7.
Where are Hostinger's servers?
Per Hostinger's documentation: the United States (Phoenix, Boston, Asheville), Brazil, the UK, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, India, Indonesia and Malaysia. VPS availability is narrower. You choose a location when you set up, and the list in hPanel is final.
Is Hostinger fast and reliable?
Independent reviewers in 2026 report fast response times and uptime in the high 99s on shared plans, and Hostinger advertises LiteSpeed and NVMe. We did not benchmark it ourselves, and results depend on your site and plan. Its uptime guarantee is 99.9%.
Final verdict
Hostinger is the budget beginner favourite for good reason. It pairs one of the lowest credible entry prices in the market with strong customer sentiment, 4.6/5 from about 72,700 Trustpilot reviews (as of October 2026), and a friendly control panel. For a first website, a personal project or a small business watching every dollar, the first-term value is excellent.
The honest caveats are the usual ones: the best prices need a long prepay, renewals climb sharply, there is no phone support, the entry shared plan only backs up weekly, and it is not designed for enterprise workloads. If those trade-offs suit you, Hostinger is an easy recommendation. Go in clear-eyed about the renewal price, read the refund terms, and verify current rates at checkout.
